Of course every american and their mother have heard of, made, and eaten a run-of-the-mill grilled cheese sandwich, usually with a bowl of tomato soup on the side (although I'm not particularly a fan). The simple meal is found in all kinds of pubs, restaurants and cafes with a small twist here or there, but thanks to my mom I will not be fooled by those average joe sandwiches any more.
To set the scene for you, it was this past monday and we were both off for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we had a dentist appointment at two which we had to leave for around one... but around twelve forty-five we both found ourselves starving and were in need of a quick bite. I suggested a grilled cheese (my mom has always made the best) but all we had was grafton cheddar... not the standard american that we are both so fond of. We all have to make sacrifices for our appetites though, and we grabbed the cheddar, the butter, some sourdough, and at the last minute, a couple of eggs.
We didn't know it at the moment but we were on the brink of making the best grilled cheese sandwich our tastebuds had ever encountered. The bread was buttered, the eggs were fried, the cheese melted, and the sandwiches squished together and thrown on a plate. Voila. We sat down to our plates salivating over the heavenly smell and took our first, wonderful bites. What emerged from that pan were gooey, cheesy, melty, egg-y (?) and slightly fatty sandwiches..OF THE GODS. Needless to say our bellies were full, happy and on time to our dentist appointment...while our minds were still dreaming of our wonderful lunch, that I'm sure will be made many times in the near future.
Try this and you won't be dissapointed.
